The Irrigation Association is seeking a marketing manager, preferably in the Washington, D.C., or Denver area. The Irrigation Association team is a hardworking group that serves the irrigation industry by promoting efficient irrigation through advocacy and professional development. We support our member companies who feed the world and provide healthy spaces for kids to play. 

This position will provide data-driven marketing expertise to the communications team. As part of the support team for this $4 million organization, this person will interact with all functional areas including professional development, advocacy, membership and meetings, communicating with stakeholder groups both within and outside of the industry. The marketing manager will report to the communications director.

Duties and responsibilities:

Surveys, data and analytics

  • Develop distribute and analyze approximately eight surveys annually
  • Monitor, analyze, report and present online engagement analytics (web, email, social media and advertising)
  • Assist in analyzing marketing data (campaign results, conversion rates, traffic, etc.) to help shape future marketing strategies
  • Support sales staff by providing sales data, market trends, forecasts, account analyses and new product information
  • Analyze and prepare SEO reports for association and magazine websites; make recommendations for improving website traffic
  • Monitor budgets by comparing and analyzing actual results with plans and forecasts
General marketing and communications
  • Brainstorm and develop creative marketing campaigns and communications plans to promote the association, events, education, certification, publications, public awareness and advocacy efforts
  • Assist in outbound or inbound marketing activities by demonstrating expertise in various areas (content development and optimization, advertising, events planning, etc.)
  • Understand and work to expand association’s audiences for programs and magazines
  • Plan and help execute initiatives to reach the target audience through appropriate channels (print, e-mail, social media, etc.)
  • Research competitive products by identifying and evaluating product characteristics, market share, pricing and advertising
  • Plan and execute marketing strategy for public awareness campaigns (e.g., Smart Irrigation Month); assist with crafting an overall plan and developing the messaging for telling the industry’s story of promoting efficient irrigation
  • Collaborate with communications team to coordinate brand awareness and marketing efforts
  • Serve as liaison for media and other relevant external partner relationships
  • Serve as liaison for association committees, common interest groups and task forces as needed
  • Write and edit content for website and email marketing efforts as needed
  • Maintain communications calendars for web and email
  • Provide general telephone support as assigned within the auto attendant hunt groups

What we’re looking for:

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, journalism or public relations
  • Three to five years of relevant experience
  • Proven experience as marketing specialist or similar role, preferably in a nonprofit organization
  • Thorough understanding of marketing elements (including traditional and digital marketing such as SEO/social media, etc.) and market research methods
  • Demonstrable experience in marketing data analytics and tools
  • Proficient in survey software such as Survey Monkey
  • Solid computer skills, including MS Office, marketing software (Adobe Creative Suite and CRM) and applications (web analytics, Google AdWords, Google Ad Manager, etc.)
  • Knowledge of social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, etc.)
  • Demonstrated ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously while managing deadlines
  • Well organized and detail oriented
  • Exceptional communication and writing skills
  • Excellent proofreading skills and execution of Associated Press style guidelines
  • Creativity and ability to think outside the box
  • A team player who is willing to help in any area when needed
  • Knowledge of HTML, CSS, web development (e.g., WordPress) and video editing tools a plus
  • Knowledge of design software such as InDesign and Photoshop a plus
  • Knowledge of the agriculture or green industries a plus

Other expectations:

  • Travel to the Irrigation Show and Education Week (one week per year, November or December)
  • Full time, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
