Irrigation Technician/Installer

Irrigation technicians/installers install, maintain and service irrigation systems. They install new irrigation systems and retrofit older systems as standalone projects or as part of larger landscaping jobs. Technicians also perform regular system maintenance, including spring startup, controller programming and winterization.

Responsibilities

  • Install new irrigation systems, including preparing the job site; laying out piping, sprinklers and other components; and testing the installation.
  • Perform regular system maintenance, including starting up systems for use in warmer months; inspecting and repairing sprinkler heads, pipes and other components; programming recommended watering schedules; and winterizing systems to prevent damage during freezing weather.
  • Troubleshoot and repair irrigation components and systems, including sprinkler heads, pipes, pumps and controllers.
  • Retrofit older systems with newer technology to improve water efficiency and reduce operating costs.

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma/GED required.
  • Three years irrigation experience required.
  • Recommended certification(s): Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester (BPAT), Certified Irrigation Technician (CIT), manufacturer certification, state irrigation license.

Compensation

  • $30,000 – $45,000*
