Water for the Future: The Role of Efficient Irrigation
The Irrigation Association, in conjunction with the American Society of Irrigation Consultants, hosted the third annual Water Conference - Water for the Future: The Role of Efficient Irrigation, on July 21-22, 2011, at the Omni Interlocken Resort in Broomfield, Colo.
Conference Highlights
- Groundbreaking Technologies in Water Management: Peter Williams discussed IBM’s Big Green Innovation’s efforts and the importance of water technology in fully integrated sustainable solutions.
- Food Security and Water: The Global Harvest Initiative’s executive director, William Lesher, discussed the need to focus on food security and the role that efficiently irrigating U.S. agricultural production will play in addressing a reliable and safe food supply.
- California’s AB 1881: Warren Gorowitz, Ewing Irrigation’s vice president of sustainability and conservation, moderated a panel comprised of experts from California, including a water purveyor, irrigation consultant and an irrigation contractor, who discussed the implementation of AB 1881 and the implications on the irrigation industry.
- Environmental Partnerships: Scott Yates, the western water director with Trout Unlimited, discussed TU’s current and future partnerships with water users throughout the western U.S. and how implementing efficient irrigation technologies and practices has had a positive environmental impact.
- Closing Panel and Audience Discussion: MaryLou Smith moderated the Water Conference, including a closing panel of select Water Conference speakers, who discussed water policy, the role of efficient irrigation and addressed audience questions.
