As part of our strategic initiative to influence policy to increase the demand for efficient irrigation, the Irrigation Association has developed formal and informal alliances with a wide range of stakeholders in the agriculture, landscape, golf and green industries. IA works with these partners to:
- Educate their members about efficient irrigation practices and technologies.
- Inform elected officials and policymakers about water-use efficiency and irrigation’s role in sustainability.
- Provide industry input to improve state and federal regulations under consideration.
- Define industry standards that reflect irrigation and water management best practices.

American Farm Bureau Federation
The American Farm Bureau Federation is the unified national voice of agriculture, working to enhance and strengthen the lives of rural Americans and build strong, prosperous agricultural communities. AFBF represents farm and ranch families and, through its grassroots structure, helps members achieve educational improvement, economic opportunity and social advancement.
The American Nursery & Landscape Association is the national voice of the nursery and landscape industry. Members grow, distribute and retail plants of all types; design and install landscapes for residential and commercial customers; and provide related products and services. ANLA provides education, research, public relations and representation services to help members operate more effectively.
American Society of Heating, Refrigerating & Air-Conditioning Engineers
The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating & Air-Conditioning Engineers is an international organization dedicated to advancing heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration. ASHRAE promotes sustainability through research, standards writing, publishing and continuing education, and is developing ANSI standards for landscape irrigation.
The American Society of Irrigation Consultants works to enhance the role of the independent, professional irrigation consultant as the unbiased advocate of the client in the effective use and management of water and other natural resources. ASIC provides a forum for members to exchange information and advance skills and techniques in irrigation design, installation and product application.
The Association of Professional Landscape Designers works to promote the recognition of landscape designers as highly qualified, dedicated professionals. APLD establishes standards of excellence for landscape design services, offers continuing education, updates members on industry developments, provides a forum for landscape designers to share ideas, and educates the public about the profession.
The Family Farm Alliance advocates for family farmers, ranchers, irrigation districts and allied industries in 17 western states. The alliance is a grassroots-based organization that puts elected officials and policymakers into direct contact with water users and local water agencies. IA is a member of the Family Farm Alliance and collaborates on water-related issues when appropriate.
The Golf Course Builders Association of America is a nonprofit association of the world's foremost golf course builders and leading suppliers to the golf course construction industry. GCBAA is dedicated to supporting the growth and vitality of the golf course industry, while promoting continued enjoyment of the game through the construction of the highest quality golf courses in the world.
The Golf Course Superintendents Association of America is dedicated to serving its members, advancing their profession and enhancing the enjoyment, growth and vitality of the game of golf. GCSAA works to improve golf’s positive environmental impact and increase recognition of golf course superintendents as critical to the economic vitality of their facilities and enjoyment of the game.
The National Association of Conservation Districts represents the United States’ 3,000 conservation districts and the individuals who serve on their governing boards. NACD’s members are local units of government, established under state law to carry out natural resource management programs. Districts help owners and operators manage and protect private and public land and water resources.
The National FFA Organization (formerly Future Farmers of America) is a dynamic youth association, dedicated to making a positive difference in the lives of middle and high school students by developing their potential for leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education. Student members are engaged in a wide range of curriculum and activities focused on careers in the science, business and technology of agriculture.
The Outdoor Power Equipment Institute is an international trade association representing the landscape, lawn and garden, forestry and utility equipment manufacturing industry. OPEI is committed to ensuring consumer safety and access to outdoor power equipment to maintain and enhance outdoor landscapes. The association serves as an industry advocate on behalf of its members before state, federal and international legislative and regulatory bodies.
PLANET — Professional Landcare Network, is an international association serving lawn care professionals, landscape management contractors, design/build/installation professionals, and interior plantscapers. PLANET helps members evaluate, plan and better manage their companies by providing access to marketing tools, industry-specific publications, updates on legislative issues and networking opportunities.
The Produce Marketing Association is a global trade association that serves buyers and sellers from every segment of the produce and floral supply chain. In addition to advocating for the industry in Washington, PMA provides late-breaking news, information on industry trends, consumer and industry research, education and networking opportunities, and industry standards and technologies.
Turfgrass Producers International represents the voice of the turfgrass sod industry. TPI’s membership includes turfgrass sod producers, suppliers, manufacturers, landscape contractors, educators, students and industry associates throughout the world. TPI is committed to promoting and encouraging the use of turfgrass sod, and provides education, research and networking opportunities to its members.
The United Fresh Produce Association represents the interests of members throughout the global, fresh produce supply chain, including family-owned, private and publicly traded businesses. As fresh-cut and other forms of value-added processing continue to fuel industry growth to meet consumer demand for high quality, convenient produce, United Fresh provides expertise and management support for its members.
The United States Golf Association is the national governing body of golf for the United States and Mexico. USGA organizes 13 national championships, including the U.S. Open; conducts equipment testing; funds research for better turf and the environment; maintains a Handicap System; celebrates the history of the game; and administers an ongoing grants program.
Western Growers is an agricultural trade association dedicated to providing quality services and programs that enhance the competitiveness of its members. Western Growers’ members grow, pack and ship 90 percent of the fresh vegetables and nearly 70 percent of the fresh fruit and nuts grown in Arizona and California, about one-half of the nation's fresh produce. IA is a member of Western Growers and collaborates on water related issues when appropriate.
