Irrigation Association Launches New Agriculture
Certification Program
Certified agriculture water manager exam introduced at
Irrigation Show
FALLS CHURCH, VA. (Dec. 10, 2010) — The Irrigation
Association’s Select Certified program has introduced a new certification: the
certified agriculture water manager program. The first exams were given Dec. 6-8
at the 2010 Irrigation Show in Phoenix.
IA’s seventh certification, the CAWM recognizes experience
and excellence among industry professionals who evaluate, operate, manage and
improve agricultural irrigation systems to achieve the highest possible level
of water conservation. They are involved in decisions regarding irrigation
scheduling and maintenance to economically maximize their use of water and
energy and optimize crop production.
In addition to passing the exam, CAWMs must demonstrate a
minimum of three years of irrigation-related experience and agree to follow the
Code of Ethics established by the IA Certification Board. Like all IA-certified
professionals, CAWMs must submit 20 continuing education units per two-year
cycle to remain in good standing.
IA also offers agriculture professionals the certified
agricultural irrigation specialist and the certified irrigation designer
designations. CID professionals can qualify to be technical service providers
for the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
