Lectures and labs will be conducted in part by various industry representatives who will demonstrate their specific products and its application. Therefore, the student will experience a broad range of "real world" situation which can be applied throughout their career. Lectures and labs will cover basic hydraulics, site analysis, determining water needs, selecting sprinklers, designing systems and estimating costs. Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to design and prepare a final irrigation plan for various site situations which will include accurate hydraulics, components and materials to be used.

TURF 262 Irrigation Installation & Maintenance: A course to have students be able to identify and know the function and layout of those components typical to a residential and/or golf course irrigation system. In addition, the course will stress good maintenance and trouble shooting/repair of malfunctioning system components.

Degree: UC Riverside offers a certificate in landscape management and turf grass management. Students learn the most efficient and effective irrigation practices possible to simultaneously achieve lowest cost, maximum resource conservation and best plant care. The Landscape Irrigation Certificate is for those who wish to learn scientific principles of soil-water-plant relationships, landscape plant anatomy and physiology as it relates to water use, and physics and meteorology as they relate to irrigation. Professionals will also develop technical skills relating to the design, maintenance and management of large, complex irrigation systems as well as how to comply with laws and professional standards. Working with instructors who are experts in their field, students develop expertise and skills needed to serve a variety of landscaping careers and applications such as recreational parks, campuses, commercial and industrial parks, association-owned residential common areas, baseball fields and golf courses. This series is a 24-unit certificate. Take one class, or complete the entire certificate.

Principles applied to solving irrigation and drainage problems. Emphasis placed on practical solutions to common irrigation system problems. Student will design irrigation systems selecting components that fit the specific situation. Basic hydraulics, design, scheduling, and system component are studied. (2H, 3L, 3C). THIS CLASS HAS A HIGH MATH KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENT. Students will be required to understand and use complex formulas. This includes looking at charts and diagrams in order to gather information to solve problems of flow, pipe size, matched precipitation rates and other items needed to design several different irrigation systems. This class uses Irrigation Association educational modules as key components of instruction.

Class: Water Management is the application of irrigation principles and practices utilizing water and energy conservation methods to meet industry needs. Graduates of this program are highly recruited to design, sell, install, operate, maintain, manage, and/or service turf, landscape, and agricultural irrigation systems. The knowledge and skills required to perform these services are acquired through lecture/discussion sessions, lab exercises, live off-campus projects, and field trips. Some courses are offered via distance delivery for students not able to attend on campus or for continuing education.
Degree: The Associate in Applied Arts and Sciences Degree in Water Management is a 2-year technical degree that is transferable. Graduates of this program may find employment as designers, irrigation managers, salesmen, installation foremen, service technicians, water auditors, contractors, store managers, inside salespersons, or consultants. They can also transfer to Washington State University with junior standing in the College of Agriculture. Distance Learning classes are available as preparatory training for entry-level employees or as continuing education for those currently employed. Program scholarships are available each year to assist students. Walla Walla Community College started this program in 1977 and has enjoyed tremendous success with student placement and industry support.
