Student Essay/Video Contest
Contest Specifications
Specifications for essay and video preparation and submission are as follows:
- Submit one essay or one video.
- Individuals must have been enrolled in an irrigation class in 2011. This includes Spring, Summer and Fall classes taken in 2011.
- The essay must be between 1,500 and 1,800 words; videos should be three to five minutes in length, including titles and credits. Essays should be in a Microsoft Word document, double-spaced, Arial 10-point font with 1-inch margins. Videos should be in .wmv format. Entries must address the theme from an agriculture or turf/landscape/golf perspective.
- Up to two students may collaborate on a video entry; essays must be created individually.
- The entry must address, and will be evaluated on, the following theme and concepts: "How will irrigation careers be affected by limited water supplies in the future?"
- Identify and discuss industry changes you foresee.
- Identify regional or global issues or differences.
- Applicants must complete the “Student Essay/Video Contest Application” and sign the requirements contract. Upload these forms electronically with the essay or video in the Filebox provided on the contest page on or before Sept. 28, 2011.
Entries will be evaluated by a committee of irrigation industry and academic experts. The Irrigation Foundation will announce competition winners on Oct. 10, 2011.
