Did you know we’ve got jobs?

According to a survey by CareerBuilder, one in five workers resolved to change jobs in 2014. Employment outlook is getting better, and the irrigation industry is appealing because of its wide range of career opportunities. More importantly, irrigation professionals have the chance to make a difference.

“I enhance property values and contribute to the nourishment, safety and well-being of the community,” said Irrigation Association Industry Development Director Brent Mecham, CID, CLWM, CIC, CAIS, when asked about what he does for a living. “I design, build and manage a water distribution system that helps maintain an environmental ecosystem that produces oxygen, sequesters carbon, cools the ambient air temperature, mitigates air and noise pollution, reduces erosion and provides wildlife habitat.”

The Irrigation Foundation is committed to attracting people to careers in irrigation and dedicates approximately 25 percent of its expenses to career awareness and recruitment. The Foundation’s most visible recruitment tool is the Irrigation Career Link, an online job board.

Launched in 2012, the Irrigation Career Link helps employees and employers locate one another. Visit www.irrigationcareerlink.org to:

  • Advertise open positions and internships.
  • View job seekers’ resumes.
  • Receive position posting alerts based on specified keywords and criteria.

In 2016, the Irrigation Career Link had more than 10,000 job views and helped promote irrigation career opportunities all across North America. Career link postings are recognized as featured positions to help differentiate them from other green industry employment opportunities that originate from another job board.

“The Foundation’s Career Link helps connect IA member companies with educated, motivated individuals,” said Chris Keating, CID, of The Toro Company. Keating has also been a Foundation Board of Trustees member, the Foundation Careers Task Group Leader and a 40-year veteran of the irrigation industry. “Our economy is improving, and companies now need more trained applicants to fill their job openings. The Irrigation Career Link is a place where job seekers and employers can find the perfect position or applicant, all while supporting the Irrigation Foundation.”

The irrigation industry has jobs, but an irrigation career can be much more than just a job. Be part of the world’s water solution by choosing a career in water management. Use efficient irrigation techniques to maintain crops and landscapes while reducing water loss.
