Water Conference
2010 Presentations
The 2010 Water Conference brought together leaders in agricultural, turf and landscape irrigation to discuss important issues facing water and the irrigation industry. During the two-day conference held July 13-14 in Williamsburg, Va., participants discussed how the irrigation industry is affected by the need for an increased supply of clean water and how the industry can drive policy discussions and best practices to be seen as part of a sustainable solution.
Each speaker brought a different perspective to the table, driving thought and discussion regarding the future of the irrigation industry. The Irrigation Association looks forward to releasing a report in mid-September that highlights conference discussions. We are pleased to share the 2010 Water Conference presentations below.
Keynote
Gregory J. Hobbs – Colorado Supreme Court Justice
Widely recognized as an authority on water law, Justice Hobbs will discuss this precious resource’s impact on land use, politics and civilization throughout human history. Before joining the court in 1996, Hobbs practiced water, environmental and land-use law for 23 years. View presentation.

Tom Barrett – GreenWater Infrastructure
Green Water Infrastructure integrates water resources for sustainable site development. Barrett has over thirty years of landscape industry experience. View presentation.
Jimmy Daukas – American Farmland Trust
Daukas has been with American Farmland Trust since 1997, helping farmers and ranchers improve water quality and combat climate change. View presentation.
Beth Davis – James City Service Authority
The James City Service Authority was the 2009 WaterSense Promotional Partner of the Year for its efforts to advance water efficiency inside and outside of the home. View presentation.
Michael Doane – Monsanto
Doane is the vice president of sustainable agriculture policy for Monsanto. View presentation.
Dr. Paul Lander – Dakota Ridge Partnership and American Society of Landscape Architects
For 16 years, Dr. Lander led the City of Boulder’s Water Conservation Office, directing the city’s program for a community of over 100,000 people. View presentation.
Dr. Prem Paul, DVM – University of Nebraska
Dr. Paul currently oversees the Water for Food Institute, a global institute focused on ensuring a reliable food supply and a sustainable quality of life. View presentation.
Dr. Mark Risse – University of Georgia
Dr. Risse joined the Vinson Institute as the Georgia power professor of water policy in 2009 and provides technical assistance and advice on water resource management issues. View presentation.
Aaron Salzberg, PhD – U.S. Department of State
As special coordinator for Water Resources, Salzberg manages the development and implementation of U.S. policies on international freshwater and transboundary water issues. View presentation.
Adam Schempp – Environmental Law Institute
Schempp joined the Environmental Law Institute as a staff attorney in 2007. He leads ELI’s work on water rights, allocation and use. View presentation.
