Certification candidates must submit an application, pass a written exam, meet any experience requirements and comply with a code of ethics. For additional information on each exam, click on the exam name below. Contact the Irrigation Association (certification@irrigation.org; 703.536.7080) with questions. 

  • Each exam has an initial application fee of $50 for members and $175 for nonmembers. CID candidates only submit fee before taking step 2 general exam.
  • Exam retakes can be taken at this location for the member/nonmember rates listed below.
  • All exam registrations must be received 30 days in advance of the scheduled exam date in order to sit for the exam.
  • IA reserves the right to cancel, postpone or reschedule any certification exam.

What to Bring

  • #2 pencils
  • Calculator (silent, battery-operated, non-printing model, no cell phone calculators)
  • Engineer's scale or map measuring wheel applicable to the exam you are taking
  • Picture ID
  • Confirmation letter from the Center for Irrigation Technology

Cancellation Policy

Exam cancellations must be submitted in writing at least 21 days prior to exam date. Cancellations received less than 21 days prior to exam date will be assessed a fee. No-shows on the day of the exam will also be assessed a fee.
