Certified Landscape Water Manager
Certification Process
To become a certified landscape water manager, you must:
- Submit an application. Minimum requirements: three years of work experience in an irrigation-related field and CLIA or CGIA certification in good standing.
- Pass the landscape water manager exam. The 4-hour exam includes 150 multiple choice questions on estimating water requirements and use, soil-plant-water relationships, water sources, hydraulics, sprinkler layout and zoning, scheduling, auditing, system maintenance and economics.
- Comply with the Code of Ethics.
- Remain in good standing. As of Jan. 1, 2011, CLWMs must submit 20 continuing education units per 2-year cycle to remain in good standing. For details on CEU requirements, click here.

Exam cancellations must be made in writing at least five business days prior to the exam date. Cancellations made after this date will be assessed a cancellation fee. If a candidate fails to appear on the day of exam, the candidate will forfeit all application and exam fees and will not be eligible for a refund.
